How To Downsize Your Closet

At any rate, buying more stuff can never tire us. Even if we have all the money in the world to buy everything that catches our fancy, we do not have all the space in the world to keep things.

Sooner than later, we are left with clothes we may never wear, or stuff we’ll never use.

It is almost always impulsive to buy anything we find has a “clearance sale” tag, and that is because they are too cheap. The bottom line is that we are left with a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear.

It’s time to DECLUTTER YOUR CLOSET AND DOWNSIZE YOUR WARDROBE.

This article will help you to balance your life by getting your home in order.

HOW TO DECLUTTER YOUR CLOSET

The first thing you must know is that no matter how many or little you have, everything you have is in three categories. So, first, take all your clothes and stuff out of your closet. Quickly go through everything and separate them into three piles: items to keep, things to donate, and items to lose.

Throw out any item that is stained or ripped. Some things are seasonal. Put these aside.

Next, go through your shoes. It doesn’t matter how pretty they are if you find any that hurt your feet, toss them.

Having fewer things in your wardrobe, and having so much space gives you a sense of control. You should only keep things you love and things that reflect the real you, rather than something you stare at and can never decide what to do with.

It’s a no-brainer to keep clothes for your “past self” or “future self.” Live in the moment.

If you find some old stuff that you don’t want to part with, try Oprah’s strategy. Here’s what she does:

She hangs all her stuff with the hangers in the reverse direction. After she uses any one of them, she’d return it to the closet with the hook facing the correct direction. Over several months, you will see what items you use and the ones you don’t even need.

HOW TO ORGANIZE YOUR CLOSET

After you have sorted through all your stuff, you can now organize your closet. It is good to hang up as much stuff as you can. Put the clothes that you wear the most in the front. Or if you like, sort by colors.

Maximize your closet space. You can take advantage of the unused spaces. For instance, you can put a shoe hanger on the inside of your closet door to hold your shoes. You can make cute little baskets to keep your socks.

Creativity never gets old.

When you downsize your wardrobe, you’ll get dressed quicker, have calmer mornings, and enjoy what you wear.

TIPS

#1. Avoid impulsive buying. Be more intentional with shopping online or offline. Only buy what you will need.

#2. Don’t allow the clearance sale rush to pull you. It is good to pay more for an item that you will use rather than making a lot of cheap purchases. This will save you more money in the long run.

#3. Be mindful of the new clothes coming into your closet.

#4. Make a list of clothing items that you just don’t like or that don’t fit your body style. Don’t ever rebuy them.

DONATE

You can donate stuff you don’t wear that is still wearable.. There are many Goodwill stores around. Many of them will even give you a small tax write-off. You could call a local shelter for the homeless to see if they will accept your stuff.

If you are shy or probably don’t have the time to make a local drop-off, there are other options.

You can ship your items to Goodwill with Amazon. Go to GiveBackBox.com, print a FREE shipping label, and drop the box off at a local post office or UPS store. And that’s it!

You can even sell some of that stuff and make some money online.

ORGANIZE YOUR KITCHEN

To make your kitchen cool, you should try organizing your kitchen into zones. What will make sense is to use your kitchen’s floor plan to create these zones.

For instance, you could have a cooking zone, washing zone, or a beverage zone. When you create these kinds of zones in your kitchen, everything has a place. You will simplify your time.

This excellent kitchen organization idea will keep your kitchen clean and tidy.

After all, it is where we prep and cook the meals that nourish our families. With the kitchen being the heart of the home, let’s make it a beautiful space that we love.
